I was not sure where I was heading or if there was even a specific destination. I left Milan, headed north towards Trento. The mountains rising before me were gorgeous. I stopped to spend time exploring Trento and Roverto, relaxing after a busy two weeks in Tuscany and watching the rain fall as I looked out on my lovely view. On a sunny day, I decided to drive into the Dolomites. Not exactly sure what to expect, I drove to Bolzano, then took a winding, beautiful drive up to elevations over 2000 meters (6500 feet). The signs were in Italian and German but many hotels and restaurants were closed in late October, awaiting the winter season. It must be an incredible sight in the snow! I saw the famed rosy glow on the Dolomites at sunset in my rearview mirror, but no place to stop for a photo. My intention was to make a circular route and maybe went the wrong way but I did find the road back to Trento as the full moon was rising. The next day, I drove the short 30 minutes to Riva del Garda for a lovely late afternoon lunch on the shore of Lago Garda.

I returned to Milan with a few days to spare before leaving for Lyon, France and took the train to Lake Como for a couple days. The station was right on the waterfront in Como Lago and I walked to the Palace Hotel and was able to book a room for 2 nights. I walked around the lake, wandered into the town and through the Duomo. It was calm and lovely this time of year. The next day, I bought a ferry ticket to Bellagio. I had a couple hours before departure and I took the funicular up to Brunate with great panoramic views over Lake Como and the Alps in the distance. The town of Bellagio was a 45 minute ferry ride with amazing scenery, houses and little towns along the way. A beautiful town, I walked up the main street and down past the gardens to the waterfront. I had a little time to spare and stopped to enjoyed a Spritz at Bar Rossi before my return to Como.

      1. How are you?! These are all from 2015? Where are you at now?

Evan will be off to college this fall and Dana will be going into high school. It’s all bittersweet!

        1. Wow, seems like they were just babies! It must be hard to see them off on their own but I’m sure you have proud moments too 🙂 I’m good and have been in California for most of this year. I’ve been updating my website and working on a new project that I will announce soon!
